Department of Natural Product Chemistry
The School of Pharmacy of University of Napoli and in particular the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Toxicology, and the Department of Natural Products Chemistry will partecipate to NatSynDrugs activities furnishing excellence skills in the field of Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmeceuticl Technologies. In particular, partecipants researchers have a noteworthy experience in fields as: applied molecular modelling, ligand- and receptor-based drug design, extraction, isolation and structural characterization of biologically active natural substances, synthesis and structural characterization of biologically active peptides. The top-level experience gained in these fields is also demonstrated by the designation, by the EU, of the Department of Natural Products Chemistry as a joint Marie Curie Training Site and Marie Curie Development Host Fellowship. Departments will contribute to the research activities of the Centre furnishing laboratories and technical support. In particular, the Centre will dispose of: a) most popular softwares for the study of macromolules and for the Drug Design, b) a number of Silicon Graphics workstation (SGI), including 6 Octane2 and one Origin 2000 equipped with 8 processors R12000; c) four laboratories for the isolation and purification of natural substances fully equipped with different tools for chromatography processes; d) two laboratories fully equipped for the synthesis of peptides; e) a Centre for the instrumental analysis, with 4 NMR (700 MHz, 500 MHz and two 400 MHz), 4 mass spectrometers (EI, FAB, ES, MALDI-TOF, FTIR), Circular Dicroism and UV spectrophotometers.
